An Analysis on School Health & Safety in ¡°Every Student Succeeds Act¡±
Park Youn-Ju

Abstract
With abolishing ¡°No Child Left Behind(NCLB)¡± in 2016, ¡°Every Student Succeeds Act(ESSA)¡±has been dramatically implemented. NCLB¡¯s rigid testing regime has resulted in a serious imbalance that denies many students access to the high-quality curriculums that students in more affluent schools enjoy. NCLB has some serious side effects regarding school violence, drug use, unhealthy behaviors, and etc. ¡°Core academic subjects¡± for the nation¡¯s tests in NCLB are replaced with ¡°well-rounded education¡± for all students in ESSC. Afterwards, health and physical education will be more focused at the arena of school contexts. Futhermore, school health and safety programs will be more activated due to ESSC¡¯s expanded financial supports. The shift to ¡°well-rounded education¡± and ¡°school health and safety¡± in ESSA gives a significant implication to the Korea¡¯s education.
